    The research project for my thesis was a comprehensive study of Reactive Power Compensation in a low voltage distribution network, which was conducted in the Electrical Engineering Laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Settat (FSTS). The project also included efficient techniques and recommendations of reactive power compensation by carefully adapting installations with new technologies.Under the supervision of Pr. Rachid Habachi, to facilitate the study and work load experiments and simulations were done on a Schneider Electric-Merlin Gerin capacitor banks (compensator).

The work included;▪︎Maintenance of 90 & 45 MVA transformers and Load Tap Changers (LTC).▪︎Transformer Maintenance tests; Trip tests (electronic & mechanical relays), Disolved-gas Analysis (DGA), Insulation Resistance, Contact Resistance and Breakdown Voltage (BDV) tests. ▪︎Project management.▪︎Remote monitoring of the transmission network through Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

The work varied from; ▪︎Installation of a 33 kV Auto Recloser Switchgear on the Vubwi 33 kV Over Head Line ▪︎Maintenance of Oil Circuit Breakers (OCBs)▪︎Attending to domestic eletrical faults around town and faults that occurred on both the medium/high voltage (MV/HT) network. ▪︎Replacing old ultlity poles with new ones, repositioning/shifting insulators and conductors to the erected poles. ▪︎Routine inspection of both the HT/MV distribution network.
