I am Harry de Winton, currently based in London, England, where I serve as the Chief Technology Officer at MakeSense Technology, working on innovative solutions for individuals with vision impairment. My academic journey culminated in a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London, where I focused on additive manufacturing technologies. I also hold a Master of Engineering from the same institution. My professional experience includes a data science internship at Cashplus, where I utilized natural language processing and Python for data analysis, and a research assistant role at Imperial, where I developed a GUI for a tracking camera. I am proficient in English and have a strong foundation in mechatronics and data science, which I continuously leverage to drive technological advancements in my field.

At MakeSense we are designing a product to guide people with vision impairment. I started writing grants with Rob during my PhD and now work full-time to bring this product to life! I wear several hats at the moment, I even have one that says HR somewhere.

Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have a promising list of potential benefits for low to medium volume manufacture for metal parts. Understanding the structural integrity of AM components is key to increasing use in high performance and safety critical applications. My PhD focused on:- developing a new camera based in-situ process monitoring system- correlating results with micro CT scans to validate the systems efficacyWe used a 20kHz camera to record images of every micro weld that makes up a part. This generated ~1TB of data per centimetre cubed of material. We then trained a model to correlate between the camera images and micro CT scans of the part. Finally we used the trained model on fresh data to measure porosity in unseen parts.de Winton, H.C., Cegla, F. and Hooper, P.A., 2021.
