Harris has extensive experience in estate planning and probate matters, including estate tax reduction techniques, succession planning involving owners of closely-held businesses and various post-mortem strategies. Harris also has experience in representing individuals and business entities before the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue. Prior to joining McGuire, Wood & Bissette, from January 1993 through February 2004, Harris was associated with and a shareholder in another prominent Asheville, NC law firm where he represented clients in estate planning, probate matters and Federal and North Carolina tax controversies. He is a board certified specialist in estate planning and probate law. From 1989 through 1992, Harris was Trial Attorney for the Tax Division of United States Department of Justice where he represented the interests of the Unites States in federal tax matters. He has also served as Counsel to the U.S Senate Subcommittee on Aviation of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Technology Committee.
