Sustainable Data Lead
-
2020 - 2021
At Physis, I focused on developing and refining our in-house research process to collect and manage sustainability data. I proposed a new approach and platform for data collection, led the transition process, and trained five new analysts on corporate reporting analysis. I leaned on communication and problem solving when collaborating with the developer team to ideate, build, and refine interactive platform tools to host research.I focused on evaluating, selecting, and displaying meaningful impact indicators that communicate the ESG impacts of the ~1500 equities within MSCI World index. As part of my role, it is essential to examine a range of traditional and non-traditional data providers (e.g. Reuters/Refinitiv, Bloomberg, CDP, MSCI, RepRisk, AFSC Investigate), identifying overlap and asymmetries between providers, and understanding methodology behind reporting & scoring. While supporting the firm's advisory arm, I managed and presented an exclusionary screening for an $18B international pension fund that had concerns about controversial weapons, animal testing, workplace safety, and emissions. As a member of a small team, I contributed to organization strategy, marketing, project management, and systems building.

As an Associate Assessor at Verego, I supported the compilation of bi-annual corporate responsibility assessments for global clients, scrutinizing policies and systems to provide performance scores across 56 elements of business strategy. Policies were evaluated using internal and external evidence, while implementation was validated through conversations with procurement and sustainability officers, as well as interviews with site managers and employees. Performance assessments detailed eligibility for certification to the Verego SRS standard and included recommendations for policy and program improvement. To inform client recommendations and support the adoption of impactful corporate social responsibility practices, I researched and evaluated corporate strategy of industry leaders. I examined annual reports, press releases, codes of conduct, supplier policies and more to identify innovative approaches to ESG business challenges. I highlighted examples of strong policies and programs in the areas of sustainability, human rights, sourcing, community initiatives, and governance, while contributing to and maintaining a database of over 1600 examples. During my time at Verego, I proposed and executed the migration of ESG Knowledge Database from Excel to an online platform, increasing the ease of managing data, improving customer experience, and establishing internal product metrics.I also assisted with the company newsletter and regular communications, redesigning monthly updates to better feature company news, industry trends, and client spotlights, reaching more than 200 stakeholders.

As a member of the Solar Energy project team, I researched and identified characteristics of ideal candidates for rooftop solar energy, assembling economic, social, and geographic data about homeowners to focus marketing and advocacy efforts. Specifically, I conducted spatial analysis with ArcGIS Mapping Program and Google Maps to assess viability of rooftop solar projects in Southeast Michigan. Following my analyses, I developed heatmaps indicating optimal candidates for solar panels that could be used to focus and target marketing campaigns. I presented the methodology and findings at the Michigan Net Impact Chapter's final symposium.
