I was responsible for planning, status, and management of multiple project managers and field contractors; and development of new operating processes and procedures.• Led an improvement team that implemented an electronic run-ticketing system for field operations that automated digital flow of oil sale "receipts" so that field operators would not have to collect them from lease locations and manually enter them on a daily basis - freeing them to focus on production and deliver more value.

    I was a process improvement ‘black belt” in the Process Improvement Branch where I led enterprise-level process improvement initiatives and projects. I was in the second wave (cadre) of the Center's full-time black belts that were trained through Raytheon's corporate black belt program at Long Beach California. The concept for this program was to select high performance candidates (most typically with supervisory experience), train them in Lean and Six Sigma , and have them practice continuous improvement full-time for a two year period. At the end of their two year cycle, they would be redeployed to various jobs across the Center's organizations, where they would be advocates that promote and help grow a culture of continuous improvement. Following behind them would be successive waves of newly trained black belts that would continue this cultural development that best ensures long term improvements and gains in performance.

    Tinker Air Force Base is one of three air force repair depots. At Tinker we overhauled and repaired all of the air force's jet engines and the KC-135 tanker, B-1 bomber, B-52 bomber, and AWAC aircrafts. I was a process and facility engineer in the propulsion directorate where I supported heat treating, welding, painting, plasma spray, and special coating processes for jet engine repair.

    At Ellsworth AFB I worked on the underground (silo-based) minuteman ICBM missiles. These missiles were spread-out over 100s of square miles in western South Dakota. Working on these systems out in the prarie, where you could often look 360 deg around the horizon and see nothing but grass and sky (not a tree or a house), where I worked through blizzards and burning sun, where I sometimes looked up from the bottom of a launch-tube into the nozzles of the working-end of a nuclear missile was memorable - an experience that I don't regret and will never forget. Side Note: My family and I went to the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore this summer (1st time for the wife and kids). The old minuteman missiles have been deactivated and shutdown, but they have preserved a minute man site as a national monument and the Park Service gives tours of it - a site that I have worked in often as a missile systems analyst.
