Gateway Jewish Museum Livingstone, Zambia
In designing the Gateway Jewish Museum for the late David Susman [chairman of Woolworths], I created the theme and concept of the space for the client. I did research with colleges on the Diaspora of Zambia, this entailed creating a timeline of the different categories included in this process was picture research and sourcing then finally editing. After this I designed the interior space with the 3d programmer for the flow of the space including content and cabinetry work and electronic items to be established within the museum. I then developed the typographic style using Adobe. The logo was then designed and finally brand identity was created for the museum. I developed; created and edited oral testaments while working with two professional editors and a cinematographer and working as a sound engineer for these documentaries. I illustrated and designed all the graphic panels and included some of my photography, using Adobe I retouched all the photographic imaginary for the text panels. I then developed touch screens for the oral testaments and touch table to exhibit the content of the museum; this included a timeline to show the history of the Diaspora. I then implemented the 3d design in the museum working on the construction of dry walling and colours for the space, hanging all the panels as well as installing all the monitors for the multi-media display and cabinetry work. We then installed the artifacts that were designed for the museum space. This work is still to be continued as some of the items were missing and needed to be confirmed.

New Aura was started as a freelance company with all the different projects that I was working on. It is a multi disciplinary company, working with professional teams on defined assignments, discovering creative and unique ways to resolve these problems and coming up with original ideas in the interpretation of each of these projects. It was established in 1995 and has been with me right up to date.

I was responsible for the design of several other exhibitions, which included The Glory of the Game: Rugby and the South African Jewish Minyan; E=MC2 in collaboration with the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and Renee Sivan, international museologist. Following the Chagall exhibition, me and the South African Jewish Museum successfully collaborated with the South African National Gallery on a number of projects. Most notably a William Kentridge retrospective at the museum. I also designed the Albert Adams exhibition together with Marilyn Martin, former director of the National Gallery and Joe Dolby, former senior curator at the Gallery. I also designed the catalogue, which was edited by Shea Albert, then director of the SA Jewish Museum. I also designed the successful exhibition showcasing the career of Joe Wolpe, the doyen of Cape Town’s art world for more than forty years. I also designed an exhibition for the Irma Stern Museum on ikats and exotic jewellery from a collector. For the exhibition I created the theme and concept of the space for the client. I developed the concept for the display of the items where all the exhibits were going to be shown and also selected all the cabinetry for the show and plinths for the jewellery to be exhibited. I then selected all the content as well as paintings and sculptures to create the narrative, after doing the colour swatches and working with plascon paint company on this project for the wall tones. I then designed the graphics using Adobe. I also employed a calligrapher to help with the content of the exhibition which was displayed on the walls in a designed type and feel of a Persian merchant. The final task was the lighting of the show and the items mounted in the display cabinets.

I moved to the fashion arena and collaborated for seven years with Marie Claire International. I was employed to develop the Marie Claire fashion brand for the South African market by Paris MC, working closely with the Fashion Director and regular trips to Paris, we created the pages for the look and feel of the MC brand. I designed all the pages from workshops to high end fashion shoots with the Fashion Director. I worked with the models and photographers as well as train assistant editors, to bring back work that would represent the MC brand. Co-ordinate with the editor in JHB on the fashion trend we were working on for this months issue. Briefing photographers on the fashion shoot we were preparing to do and the look and feel of the shots we wanted to portray in the magazine. This also applied to the junior editors for their workshop pages and workshop shoots with models. As far as production of shoots I worked with photographers and printing houses re touching of images and creating the mood of the story for final layout. This included two fashion shoots and one international by in from a world established photographer from one of the international MC issues.
