Leveraging my years leading the creative team at Inc. Magazine and building a network of exceptional company builders and innovators, I designed an unusual program in innovation and entrepreneurship for undergraduate students in the liberal arts, the performing arts, the sciences, and social sciences. The goal was not to graduate entrepreneurs, but to help students develop the skills, experiences, and attitudes necessary to transform their passions into economically sustainable lives. Created an elite team of practitioners as faculty and advisers to propel students out of the classroom and into the world of trial and error and constant iteration.

Led the company through its sale to German media giant Bertelsmann in 2001. Created the Inc. 500, a ranking of America's fastest-growing private companies, which has become an international brand in its own right. The Inc. 500 featured many of the world's leading companies while they were still in their infancy, including Microsoft, Oracle, Domino's, Intuit, Charles Schwab, Patagonia, Paychex, Qualcomm, and countless others.

Recruited to become Editor-in-Chief at 26 yrs. old after invaluable training at New York Magazine. Back in mid-seventies Boston was home to an astonishing pool of journalistic talent. Thanks to the work of a young, imaginative, and fearless team of writers, editors, designers, and photographers, we transformed Boston Mag from a failing, timid Chamber-of-Commerce spin-off into an award-winning, dynamic publication.

Started out at New York Magazine as the mailboy. Imagine sorting mail for Tom Wolfe, Nora Ephron, Jimmy Breslin, Dick Reeves, Gail Sheehy, Nik Cohn and, of course, Clay Felker and Milton Glaser. Talked my way into the newsroom and onto the arts and entertainment section of the mag, and worked with Judith Crist, Barbara Rose, Tom Hess, Alan Rich, and John Simon. (Thanks to John I made it as a clue in the Sunday Times Crossword: Clue: John Simon's editor. Answer: panhandler.) In some ways the rest of my career could be viewed as attempts to re-create the thrill of walking into that newsroom every morning.
