    Within the Mechanical Design department, accountable for the structural analysis of rolling stock. This would range from the analysis of lifting components used within the workshop to entire coaches, ensuring that they were safe for use and optimally designed. This was done by means of finite element analysis and calculations. Design optimization formed a part of this function, primarily, this served to ensure that production and material resources were used as efficiently as possible.
