For my graduate thesis, I set out to design an enticing vehicle-based solution to traffic in Los Angeles. After reviewing many failed attempts at commuter-optimized vehicles, I discovered that they primarily combined the drawbacks of both cars and motorcycles while not sufficiently capturing the benefits.Based on these findings, I created a new design for review and discovered one key insight shared by many: "I really want to use it, but I don't want to buy it." This led to a continuation of insights and further development that began as a vehicle fleet subscription membership, but ultimately became a semi-autonomous vehicle most effectively optimized by UBER.For single passengers, the Uber NARO provides the fastest route across highways and through urban landscapes with the option to take the wheel for a unique, exhilarating driving experience. For Uber it provides unmatched operating cost benefits in energy consumption (fuel) efficiency, space efficiency at charging pods, cue time to passengers, and vehicle inventory/passenger use costs.

Worked cross-functionally between engineering, design, and strategy teams.Designed and built a full-scale buck that separates into different modules so it could be updated as the vehicle design progressed. It was used to rapidly test ergonomics, cargo capacities and use-case scenarios far in advance of more complex and expensive prototypes. The observations we encountered saved time and money and created a springboard for ideas and insights.

Deep Orange 6 collaboration between Art Center College of Design, Clemson University (CUICAR) and Toyota.Exterior design lead collaborating with a team of 18 graduate-level engineering students from CU-ICAR and another grad student from Art Center for the interior. We worked with Toyota to research, design, and build a prototype vehicle for Gen Z in 2020. The Deep Orange project emulates the top-down vehicle development process utilized in industry from concept development to prototype build and validation, albeit a compressed 18-month time frame with limited resources and budget.Created research tools for concept development and validation to discern Gen Z values and align vehicle concepts with future trends.Designed and built a fifth-scale model for exterior design development and a full-scale vehicle buck for packaging validation and user interaction studies.

What began as a group project to solve Art Center's transportation challenges has evolved into continuing personal work in mobility, public transit, and customizable electric vehicles. The first year of the project was to conduct research to understand core issues and then design solutions for Art Center's transportation challenges. Project goals included uniting North and South campuses, establishing awareness of alternative transportation, benefiting the Pasadena community, designing sustainable vehicles, and maximizing school resource efficiency.Prototyping of ideas has been paramount including the current development of fully functional, full-scale test mules.A key emphasis has been placed in DIY culture and establishing an exciting emotional connection with efficient commuter vehicles.
