Monuments for the Present is an open-ended project that invites dialogue around diverse ideas of equality and public space, and responds to recent debates around public monuments in the UK. The exhibition has been co-created by participants from the Maryhill Integration Network Museum of Things Art Group with the Monuments for Equality creative initiative (Paria Goodarzi, Mia Gubbay and Francesca Zappia). The works on display represent nine months of regular collaborative dialogue and co-creation using different media and techniques, and include videos, collages, and monuments made from soap.Monuments from the Present builds upon ‘Monuments for Equality’ - a series of pilot co-research sessions that took place throughout four workshops with adults and young people organised at the Unesco RILA Spring School (2022) and Govanhill Baths (2023). This research explored potentialities for diverse forms of equality within public spaces. The project is part of Glasgow International. It is supported by Glasgow International, Maryhill Integration Network, CCA: Centre for Contemporary Arts, Byres Community Hub, See Me, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Refugee Festival Scotland, and JACK ARTS Scotland.

I will focus on the example of the Laocoön using a trans-historical perspective to dig into its past copies as well as recent digital reproductions.

Co-published by Cnap & Shelter Press. English translation by Rachel Valinski. This curatorial project in a book results from a period of curatorial research within the collections of the Cnap | Centre national des arts plastiques, Paris. It explores the notion of reproduction exploring 19th c. copies and casts, and 20th-21st c. postmodernist appropriations and quotations. Looking at their socio-political context of production, the project disrupts the very notion of reproduction, claiming for the originality of the copy. Through a long interview the curator introduces the reader in the rooms of this imaginary museum.
