    I am MBIE’s Chief Data and Insights Officer. My role is to support MBIE to deliver on our data and insights strategy, and establish capability to use data and insights for policy making, customer delivery and operational intelligence. I joined MBIE in 2017 on a public sector talent secondment from Stats NZ. It’s a great opportunity to learn about MBIE's vast range of functions -- science, innovation, housing, immigration, tourism, commerce and more -- and to get this key data engine aligned and in gear.

    This is a key senior leadership role in Statistics New Zealand, accountable for providing cross-organisation oversight and focus on the efficient and integrated delivery of services to our customers. As GM Customer Support and Development I work with my talented managers and their wonderful teams to lead the Customer Strategy and Delivery Group's delivery of customer services, integrated data services, and cross-domain and cross-government information initiatives. These are achieved in partnership with other agencies. A key part of this is to gain insights into our customers' needs and help translate these into relevant products and services. I lead a branch of 90 staff, three business units, and high priority cross-government projects.Member of the Social Sector Investment Change Steering Group, the New Zealand Data Futures Forum and the Government Chief Privacy Officer Establishment Group. Worked closely with the office of the Minister of Finance on initiatives including establishing the New Zealand Data Futures Forum to explore the potential to harness the economic and social power of data for New Zealand, while maintaining public trust and confidence.

    In September 2013, I was appointed Senior Manager Integrated Data and Research, and worked closely with Treasury to lead the expansion of Statistics New Zealand's Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) -- government's key information hub of anonymised, person-centred data for statistical and policy research. Responsible for creating business unit of up to 25 staff and budget of $4.8 million capex and $18.9 million opex over 2013-17My initial role at Statistics NZ was as Senior Manager Information Management, leading a great team of people responsible for digital preservation, data archiving, metadata, recordkeeping, library services, intranet homepages, collaborative tools, training and more at New Zealand's national statistical office. Responsible for business unit of 20 staff across 2 teams.I was also lead Privacy Officer for Statistics NZ, and convenor of the cross government Privacy Leadership Programme aimed at achieving an uplift in privacy performance across the state sector.
