    As the operations manager, I was required to run the day to day operation of delivering over 4000 part numbers a day to the automotive OEMs whilst in parallel diverting operations to an offshore supplier in the ASEAN region. This required meticulous planning to align the winding down of one facility while ramping up another. Managing work place morale whilst maintaining quality and delivery in the face of imminent redundancy was a challenge that was both humbling and educational. It is during adversity that you develop leadership.

    Managed a high performance team of supplier quality engineers in the automotive sector. Responsible for the implementation of manufacturing readiness and quality systems throughout the automotive supply base both domestically and overseas. Using a suite of advanced planning quality tools our department was responsible for bringing new products / components on line to meet new vehicle launches.

    I was the Supplier Quality launch leader for the Holden VE vehicle program. This was a $1B program and was Holden's biggest full vehicle launch in 30 years. In this role I worked as part of a matrix organisational management structure where I held the key program management responsibilities for the Supplier Quality team. I was responsible for the tracking and escalating of the key project milestones associated with the plant, equipment and quality readiness for both the domestic and global components suppliers. I reported on a weekly basis, team readiness to my supplier quality team and other cross functional departments, (engineering, purchasing, manufacturing and design), monthly the local board and regional directorship, and quarterly to the global executives.

    This role was ground breaking in that it was the first time a GM affiliated operation had deviated from the manufacturing bill of design, and instead opted to embrace the Japanese inspired LEAN methodology. This resulted in a single production line with no buffer strategy, ensuring a more urgent response to issues One piece flow, reduced inventory levels, and leaner material scheduling activities were also realised through this approach.In this role I was the manufacturing engineer responsible for the Engine Assembly line development of the High Feature V6 engine. The 4 year project worth almost $50M required multiple overseas assignments to US, Japan and Canada performing simultaneous engineering activities, acting as the manufacturing liaison for engineering, process and production line development.
