    As any corrections officer will tell you, this job is a combination of parent, psychiatrist, nurse, janitor, ombudsmen, and of course, law enforcement officer. Working as a team, rules must be enforced and order kept within the jail. This includes searches for contraband, accurate report keeping, and overseeing relationships among inmates. We are also in a unique position that allows a potential reduction in recidivism.This is a communication-heavy position. My voice is the biggest weapon I have- I am often the only officer within a dorm and must settle disputes with effective communication and mutual respect.I am a certified Field Training Officer (through DeWolf & Associates) and the youngest in Van Buren County. I responsible and liable for making sure our recruits are made into the best solo officers they can be.
