    Martha S. Miller & Rusty Miller Endowed Urban Forestry Intern • Worked on a various arboreal consulting and urban forestry management projects and budgets through the University of Pennsylvania, the city of Philadelphia, USFS, the Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP), and other groups in the greater Philadelphia area. This work included sourcing, installing, cataloging, and monitoring trees after installation. • Worked with the USDA program i-Tree Eco to quantify the monetary value of ecosystem services provided by Penn’s campus trees. These services include carbon sequestration, runoff reduction, and pollution mitigation. • Researched and produced a report on the appraised value of the University of Pennsylvania's urban forest resource with the intention of advocating for a management budget that is consistent with the value of the asset and the university's tree management plan. This project included understanding, quantifying, and presenting the aesthetic, economic, and environmental value of campus trees. The resulting report is now included in the university’s tree management plan.• Taught an introductory soil science course to arborists, landscape architects, and environmental professionals.• Worked with the office of the university architect and the Morris Arboretum urban forestry consultants to create a comprehensive campus tree management plan.• Developed proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS desktop and mobile application tools used for creating and managing forest inventories.• Assisted in coordination of community programs including the Penn Tree Giveaway and the Morris Arboretum Plant Sale.• Worked with Morris Arboretum education department and arborists on coordinating School of Arboriculture courses and course schedule. • Learned proper tree management following ANSI tree management standards.• Trained in using a resistograph.
