Carey in the Energy and Multiphase Transport Lab: experimentally manufacturing and characterizing nanostructured surfaces for enhanced heat transfer and evaporative cooling. • Assessing the durability of the nanostructured surfaces and developing a design for a spray cooling evaporator to cool air by removing and evaporating entrained droplets in an air flow. • Utilizing machine learning techniques (genetic algorithm, neural network) to develop a model for droplet evaporation time as a function of experimental and surface parameters.
