Tarion is the regulator of the new home industry in Ontario and administers a mandatory licencing scheme and warranty program.As one of the first lawyers hired by the CEO to build a legal team, I had the opportunity to hire lawyers, law clerks and legal assistants and set up a structure that supported the entire organization. We created robust processes and controls to significantly reduce the number of disputes. I took carriage of the most significant and challenging litigation matters and where necessary, took them to trial and a full hearing on their merits. I also provided guidance and support to the other members of the legal team and had the privilege of mentoring new lawyers who progressed to various leadership positions in the company.
