      The Northern Teacher Education Program (NORTEP) opened its doors in 1977. The Northern Teacher Education Program (NORTEP) is offered in La Ronge, SK and comprises classes from both the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.The program includes extensive field experience and two concentrations selected from Cree, Dene, English, Indian/Native Studies or Science. In addition to training teachers, Nortep has added university access programs for those students who want to pursue other degree specializations other than education. The Norpac program allows them to take the first two years at Nortep/Norpac before having to go to the U of S or U of R to finish their degrees.
