Provided leadership for the development of conservation science of the conservancy that included semi-captive care of the great apes (chimpanzees), ecological monitoring, wildlife (including the northern white rhinos, lion, grevy’s zebra, hartebeest) and security issues of the Conservancy. Key outputs include: ensured the conservation science objective was strategically aligned to the organization’s vision and represented the Conservancy on issues related to natural resource management in the region; liaised with Government, NGOs and other stakeholders in natural resource management matters; developed binding contracts/agreements with relevant institutions on natural resource management matters; developed departmental budget and prepared grant proposals; monitored and evaluated the departmental activities including approved grants to ensure they were achieved timely and within budget or grant; identified and implemented best natural resource management practices to mitigate conflict with the neighbouring communities around the Conservancy; ensured that EIAs for all new projects in the Conservancy were done and annual audits undertaken thereafter; provided leadership directly to a team of 7 senior staff.
