    As researcher, I am responsible for engaging in the Research and Program Development initiatives of Diabetes SA with a focus on guiding the research design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based community public health programs and services for the early detection and prevention of diabetes. I undertake systematic literature reviews and conduct research to translate evidence into practical recommendations that benefit the organisation and its clients. I also influence policy and health program outcomes by taking a lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the projects, ensuring that they meet the requirements of Diabetes SA’s strategic plan and its stakeholders. Furthermore, I lead teams in creating databases and oversee other operations, including data handling, data analysis and maintaining outstanding project evaluations and records. I also process and contribute to the growth of scholarly knowledge in the field by preparing and submitting high quality manuscripts, conference abstracts, reports, and grants. I support project management activities and oversee the completion of important tasks and projects, including in stakeholder engagement activities. Lastly, I extend support to the organisation’s drive to produce research proposals as well as participate in the recruitment processes for research projects.

    In a partnership with the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, I was tasked to develop project proposals, grant applications, and other concepts to promote the project and ensure the establishment and improvement of existing relationships with partners, relevant communities, and community authorities. I successfully undertook recruitment interviews and data gathering processes to determine research outcomes. Under this research project, I was tasked to efficiently managed workflows and other requirements for diverse teams working across three units within the Department of Exercise and Health Sciences, Public Health and Nutrition and Dietetics. I managed project-related correspondences with the Canadian partners and ensured adequate consulting with the University of Saskatchewan team. I also oversaw the effective exchange of ideas and project outcomes through timely and systematic communication channels, data management processes, and consultative and collaborative activities in analysing qualitative and quantitative data. Under this project, I successfully contributed to the overall dissemination of the information, and produced various publications and reports on research outcomes. Additionally, I demonstrated my ability to utilise various software programs and data processing software, including NVIVO and Endnote.

    Study: Food experiences of newly-arrived Iranian women and risk of post-migration obesityAt Flinders, I was part of a study that surveyed the food experiences of Iranian immigrants to determine the dynamics of post-migration obesity. I developed research proposal and study, starting with the literature review and the project proposal as well as other relevant paperwork, including ethics applications and interview question drafts. I also managed liaisons with the Persian community representatives in Adelaide to establish a relationship with the test subjects. Under this research project, I was tasked to conduct interviews to elicit expert opinions and carried out the interview for up to 10 participants, whilst also maintaining records and ensuring the documentation of qualitative information from these focussed discussions. I arranged schedules and other appointments with the subjects and participants, and also managed other administrative functions and components such as budgets, transcriptions, statistical analysis, and the collation of the results of the study. I also prepared a paper and submitted a full outline of the outcomes to reflect the research goals and present the research objectives.

To assist students in their learning objectives, I provided clear explanations to link the material presented in class with theory presented in lectures. I also effectively managed liaisons with sponsor representatives to design and review key clinical study documentation. It was imperative that I implemented training program to project staff whilst also liaising to ensure accurate and timely completion of all clinical data collection. Moreover, I administered record keeping, work schedules and budgeting as well as statistical tasks related to data analysis. I also prepared and submitted project progress reports on a three-monthly basis. Lastly, I collated the results and reported on project outcomes through various literature and publications.
