Through market research and prayer, in 1986 my partner and I took a leap of faith to open the doors of Photoworks of Virginia. At the inception, our business model was a small commercial photo lab and studio, with a one hour lab for daily cash flow. Many hats were worn in those days. I facilitated its workflow, kept up its books, and ran the one hour while raising my two small children. Over the years I attended many photo trade shows, and watched the industry transform, with the first spark of Photoshop. The digital age and its ever changing technology completely transformed the profile of our business. PhotoWorksGroup grew and rebranded. PWG provides large format graphics in the form of window graphics, dye sublimated fabric, flatbed and roll uv prints on various substrates, latex & solvent vinyl prints, laser etchings and other signage services. We provide total finishing services with state of the art equipment, like our ZUND. Marketing the business morphed as well, with Hubspot's in 2011. I implemented this and upgraded our website to flexible platform, keeping it fresh, relevant, and useful. PWG is a B2B model, working directly with architectural firms, airport advertising agencies, museums, sports branding departments, as well as government agencies and corporate businesses. The success of this business is attributed to a staff of caring, talented individuals with technical expertise. The sales staff has refined listening capability and focused project managers to watch your details to completions and satisfaction. Our production staff comes with a willingness to work hard, serving the needs of our clients to the best of their abilities. PWG services are like that of an engineer, artist, craftsman and contractor. PWG's competencies are strong, reliable, and time-tested. Call 1-800-829-4562

    • Lab Technician
      • 1983 - 1986

Lab tech printing included and specialized in printing murals with a large format enlarger projected onto the wall with lengthy time exposures lasting up to 18 minutes, and running into reciprocity issues. Pinning photo sensitive murals and souping in total darkness required finesse and patience. We printed regularly for clients such as the Limited, Victoria's Secret, Wendy's, and a host of other newly launched fast food chains. There we had one of Ilford's Cibachrome process and then Kodak's early Premier system. There we also did all our own photo-retouching with liquid Spot Tone and Kodak's dye pots. I also volunteered for a few years in the archives of the George Eastman Museum providing copying and processing services. I copied the great works of Edward Weston, Edward Muybridge, and more. My position allowed me to provide accurate renditions of art photography, historical photography, and highlights of the political world. It was my great privilege to be a part of this!
