As an Assistant Attorney General for the New Mexico Attorney General's Office ("AGO"), Ms. DeMack investigated consumer complaints and prosecuted various businesses for unfair and deceptive trade practices. In 2005, for example, Ms. DeMack brought suit against Zangara Dodge, Inc. on behalf of the citizens of the State. Settlement of the lawsuit brought over $300,000 in restitution to over 3,000 consumers who had been overcharged for registration of the vehicles they had purchased from Zangara Dodge. In a separate but related investigation conducted by the MVD in conjunction with the AGO, it was discovered that Zangara Dodge had not paid over 3/4 million dollars in gross receipts taxes to the State. As a result of this investigation, Zangara Dodge paid over $750,000 in back taxes to the MVD.
