Debolina Sarkar is a research-driven professional with a strong academic background in cellular and molecular biology. As a Research Fellow at the University of Canterbury, she designed and fabricated novel microfluidic platforms to study the electrotactic and chemotactic activity of zoospores. Her work has been recognized through various certifications, including First Aid and CPR Training and First Aid. With a postgraduate degree in cellular and molecular biology and a master's degree in microbiology, Debolina has developed expertise in lab techniques, microbial strain culture, and Western blot. She is currently a Research Scientist at IZon Science, where she applies her skills in instrument operation, including EXOID and qNano, to the analysis of biological samples.

PhD degree in 'Micro-fluidic device measuring the Electrotactic and Chemotactic activity of zoospores', University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. The movement of the pathogens in response to electric fields is one way in which they are thought to locate their hosts. A novel microfluidic platform design and fabrication of the platform and associated microelectronics was fabricated. The platform contained arrays of micro-electrodes that generate an electric field of defined strength in a micro-chamber into which feed inlet and outlet channels for entry and exit of media and microorganisms. To demonstrate applicability of the platform, motile zoospores of the pathogenic oomycete Phytophthora nicotianae were seeded in the inlet and a voltage along with chemoattractant was applied to investigate the electrotactic and chemotactic responses of the zoospores. This platform offers a unique opportunity to study the movements that may be responsible for the ability of the pathogens to locate and invade host tissue.
