    From January to June, I worked as a mechanical design engineer on a 6 month contract. Idesigned a special aluminium milling machine and was in charge of the project in full. Theproject plan, concept design, detail design and drawing pack were aspects of the project thatwere successfully completed. Subsequently during the process of obtaining manufacturingquotes for the manufacturing of the machine the project was shelved because of economiceffects caused by the COVID-19 world health crisis.Responsibilities: Project proposal. Project plan (schedule and cost). Concept design, detail design, design review. Manufacturing drawing pack (using CAD software). Facilitate the manufacturing process (to be completed). Test the machine and iterate the design (to be completed). Commission the final machine at Qatalum aluminium smelter (to be completed).

    From January to December, I worked part-time as a student mechanical engineer while completingmy final year of studies. Aluref SA is a company that provides a turnkey refractory and mechanicalinstallation service to Aluminium smelters. I was commissioned in my private capacity to design andmanufacture a two-axis robot for the testing of an automated MIG welding process for the creationof vertical aluminium beads. These tests were done to establish the welding parameters that wouldbe used to design an automated welding machine. These tests were also performed as part of myfinal year project at Stellenbosch University. I worked on the design of an aluminium MIG weldingrobot. Final testing with various MIG welding units to perfect the specific welding process were alsoperformed. A drawing pack for manufacturing of the MIG welding robot was drafted. Designed withAutodesk Inventor Professional 2019.Responsibilities: Investigate the welding parameters for vertical aluminium MIG welding. Design a test setup to perform welding tests. Test different welding machines (power sources). Design an automatic MIG welding machine for the purpose of filling a pitted surface. Create a manufacturing drawing pack of the machine.
