Dr. Cheng is a globally recognized medical leader in research, education and healthcare administration. Forefront of his research focuses on clinical practice and healthcare policy in perioperative medicine, critical care medicine, and evidence-based clinical decision-making. His pioneer work in fast track cardiac anesthesia and recovery has become the standard of cardiac anesthesia and recovery practice around the world. Dr. Cheng established the Evidence-Based Perioperative Clinical Outcomes Research (EPiCOR) and the MEDICI Centre (Medical Evidence, Decision Integrity, Clinical Impact) releasing a number of pivotal publications and consensus guidelines to direct evidence-based medical and surgical practices. The MEDICI Centre was recognized as a WHO Collaborating Centre in studying perioperative surgical care and anesthesia.Dr. Cheng is designated as CCPE (Canadian Certified Physician Executive) by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Society of Physician Executives (CSPE), and honored with the CSPE Excellence in Medical Leadership Award. He was inducted as Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (FCAHS); and by the German Society of Anesthesiologists and Intensive Care as Honorary member. Dr. Cheng was honored and inducted as the Centennial President (2018-19) of the (William) Harvey Medicine Club at Western University, London (the oldest medicine club in Canada).
