While working the 'Day Job' as a 3D modeler or Instructor, I've maintained my business relationships through a number of non-competing industry projects. This 'side work' kept my design and aesthetic skills sharp as I spent my days focused on making 3D models of car parts.

I accepted a short-term Alias modeling position, working as an independant contractor, on-site at the Icona facility in Rancho Santa Margarita. Working on various interior and exterior projects, some as purely concept and some headed for production, I shined in the studio with my 'build with history' methods.Designers often don't have a 100% vision of the product they need made. It helps tremendously to be able to change a 3D model in real time, minimizing lost time due to the typical 'delete and rebuild' method.

When the projects at Roush slowed down and ended, I started a small design consultancy from home. I worked on a number of consumer goods / sporting goods / product design projects. From ideation sketches and Photoshop renderings to 3D-printed working prototypes of hand-held products, I was a one-man band.

A contract dispute between me and the contracting firm I was working with at the time led to my having to exit the role as Alias modeler at Ford's PDC in Dearborn. It was a sad day. Nonetheless, I needed to press on and survive in the area. I worked with the HR and management team at Roush to ensure we weren't in violation of any contract rules as I prepared to return to the company. I started an LLC, and worked on a number of design and Alias modeling projects at Roush's facility in Livonia.

When the project ended at the Roush facility in Livonia, the Ford design team headed back to 'the mother ship' in Dearborn. I was asked to come back with them. While working on-site at Ford's Product Development Center, I was asked to train a group of incoming Alias interns. All run through the Linkage office in Detroit, it was a great way to teach a group of up-and-coming Alias rock-stars based on my experience of working on several Ford design projects.

I worked as an Alias modeler and visualization guru on a number of projects for Ford. The position was a temporary, contracting 'gig' set up by Linkage Design in Detroit. I worked at the Roush facility in Livonia, and a few designers from Ford worked with us on the projects. The experience of working with the Ford team went so well, when the project ended and Roush had no remaining work for the team... I was part of a small group that went over to Ford (Product Design Center, Dearborn).

I managed the Design Academy as well as taught the Alias classes. I worked with prospective students from all over the world, interested in coming in to Technicon's office for the training. I'd answer questions about the classes as well as the industry in general. It was hard work, and at times I considered giving up the role as an Alias modeler... being that I wound up loving the teaching side of it all so much. But... it wasn't meant to be. In early July of 2015, I chose to explore my options and look for opportunities as an Alias contractor. With my experience and reputation... it didn't take long for an offer to come my way.I'll never forget the experiences and lessons learned throughout my time at Technicon. Some good / some bad... At any rate, I take the knowledge with me as I move on. A new city, a new company... Let's see where things lead this time.
