    • Trustee, Board Member
      • 2003 - Present
      • Los Angeles

Trustee of the Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Oakie Charitable Foundation since 2003The Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Oakie Charitable Foundation underwrites lectures, scholarships and awards for deserving film and theatre students at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, USC School of Cinematic Arts, College of the Canyons, The Actor’s Fund, Syracuse University, The Rubicon Theatre, The Magic Castle, Los Angeles Inner-City Arts, The Hollywood Heritage Museum, The Motion Picture Mothers, Ventura High School and the LAUSD are but a few that enjoy the support of the Foundation. Unique from most other foundations, our recipients MUST KNOW who the benefactor is, so to apply for a scholarship all one needs to do is watch either a Jack Oakie or Victoria Horne Oakie movie, write a brief synopsis of the film and describe what contributions and/or changes they would have made if they served on the film’s crew. These ‘essays’ are submitted to the Dean of the school or other individual(s) reviewing the essays and the successful applicants are selected by those individuals. The Foundation takes no part in the selection process and since the Oakie Foundation gifts the institutions in advance, generally in the early part of each year, the scholarship or award can be presented immediately. The ‘winning’ entries are then forwarded to the Foundation. Jack Oakie said “GIVE THE MONEY TO THE KIDS” (over 16 MILLION DOLLARS awarded so far) and Mrs. Oakie instructed the trustees of the Foundation to keep the name of her husband and his work alive. We’re doing just that!
