As the onsite supervisor for AQS working in the Bridgewater Interiors facility, I manage two shifts of inspectors supporting both assembly lines at BWI. With approximately 20 inspectors we contain, sort, and rework defective parts from numerous suppliers. I provide leadership and training for my teams as we prevent non-certified parts from reaching production. Working directly with the Bridgewater Quality Engineers, I dispatch the needed personnel to contain and certify all components identified as potentially defective -- ensuring only compliant parts make it to the assembly lines. I write work instructions for, compile and record data sheets, and monitor as many as 12 simultaneous jobs for multiple suppliers. My goals include providing for my team, protecting the production needs for BWI, assuring value to our customers, while looking out for the profitability of my employer. I conduct interviews and have been instrumental in building a strong team and dependable presence as AQS breaks into the Michigan quality and containment industry as a third-party sorting company.

In 2017 I started my own business as a blacksmith and custom knife maker. My shop is small and I am the sole employee. Using a coal forge and an anvil I make custom knives -- primarily hunting and bushcraft knives, with an occasional cleaver or chefs knife. As the business has grown I have been able to acquire additional equipment and perform all of the work myself, to include heat treating the steel and making my owns sheaths. I am passionate about creating unique and useful blades which can be used for generations. Art and science combined with following the necessary processes and quality control provide me with a positive outlet for my creative side.

Quest Global Services had been contracted to run the Quality Clinic for Pratt & Whitney, and as a Quality Engineer my role included writing work instructions, quality notifications, training coworkers, and inventory control of thousands of aerospace components. Utilizing Microsoft Office -- particularly Outlook and Excel -- I was responsible for multiple spreadsheets and a massive Access database to track and disposition jet engine parts. Every defective part passed through the clinic. My primary responsibilities were returning parts to operations via SAP software and my spreadsheets/database. Data management/integrity comprised a large portion of my work day as our team dealt with all quality issues often handling hundreds of components every week. Pratt & Whitney decided not to renew our contract following the first quarter of 2020, so I re-entered the job market, leaving behind what I had expected to be a long term career position.

A much better fit than Belle Tire, I enjoyed the fast-paced environment and being able to support a team through coaching and mentoring. As Project Coordinator working in the General Motors facility, my duties included direct supervision of 20-30 employees performing inspections, sorting, rework, and containment of parts provided by GM suppliers. I wrote work instructions, submitted bids, tracked billable hours, and worked hand-in-hand with the engineering and production teams. With multiple jobs in various onsite locations my organizational skills allowed the timely completion of simultaneous projects, keeping pace with the demanding production flow of the assembly lines. During my interview I told the general manager that third shift was a "deal breaker" for me. When I was told my expertise was needed on third shift, we reached an impasse, and I tendered my resignation.

Hired to become a store manager, I started out as a tire technician -- a critical first step to learn the hands on aspects, vehicular knowledge, and mechanical aptitude required to proficiently serve our customers. As salesman I began to stagnate -- my expertise, skill set, and personality find me well-suited for supervisory roles where time management, problem-solving, and multi-tasking are best utilized -- whereas pushing customers into a sale was not such a great fit for me. I decided to seek work which did not involve direct sales and left on good terms.
