• Led the smooth integration of both BTM and UFJ’s people and processes; 115 targeted staff left with no compulsory redundancies which managed the contradictory interests of shareholders and a hostile Japanese press, reducing London’s expense base by over £4.5m. • Harmonised all employment matters, without exception or grandfathering, within 6 months; achieved 100% acceptance of new standard contracts even after significant restructuring of packages.• Restructured a declared £45m final salary pension scheme deficit down to £30m; subsequently implemented strategies to meet funding requirement in the face of competing requirements of Tokyo, regulators and trustees. • Initiated a bank-wide diversity programme, employing a range of different but complementary engagement methods including drama, online and mentoring/coaching as required. • Conceived ‘The BTMU Way’, a major corporate communications initiative ensuring all staff understood the bank’s aims, objectives and values; covering compliance, fidelity and corporate social responsibility, it was recognised by the Japanese FSA and MOF.• Developed and publicised the “greening” of the London office, highlighting environmental issues and offsetting business travel; secured active support from management and staff.• Demonstrated the viability of moving 300 positions out of London; visited and evaluated locations, dealt with enterprise staff, grant officials, schools, commercial property agents and others.
