Dave qualified as a Mission Observer on 31 May 2012. He flew his first Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) mission on 9 June as part of an aircrew from the Portland Metro Senior Squadron 85. He qualified as a Mission Safety Officer in April 2013 and got his Commercial Pilot's license current on 17 October 2013 after a 36 year absence from flying.
