    The NeedThe US Foot and Agriculture Organization estimates 800 million people suffer from hunger daily and 85% of them are subsistence farmers, living in rural areas, totally dependent on their environment.Our ApproachSubsistence farmers living in deforested watersheds are our target market. We use a three-part holistic approach to transform lives of the rural poor including environmental restoration, economic empowerment, and spiritual renewal.Our programs help families increase farm yields, heal damaged ecosystems, improve nutrition, increase household savings, and provide greater economic opportunity. Combined, this integrated program solves two major issues facing the world today: environmental degradation and rural poverty.We believe lasting solutions that address the issues of poverty must involve poor individuals themselves in both design and execution. The poor can provide the solutions to many of their own problems when given more opportunity, access to resources, and appropriate coaching.We work in The Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, Tanzania, Burundi, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thailand, and Ethiopia.ImpactPlant With Purpose families cut their level of poverty by 55%.Plant With Purpose families in sustainable development groups are twice as likely to have built up six months of cash reserves.Plant With Purpose communities reverse deforestation by adding up to one percent vegetation cover every 18 months.
