The Mama Na Mwana programme aims to improve maternal and newborn health and survival by supporting pregnant women, mothers with newborns and husbands / partners. These are the project’s main beneficiaries. In addition, the project conducts health education in the wider community for promoting maternal and newborn health.The purposes of the programme are:• To improve the uptake of health services and healthy practices by women during pregnancy, delivery and after the baby is born• To improve support from husbands / partners for women in pregnancy, delivery and after the baby is born• To improve post-natal family planning, specifically spacing of pregnancies for the health of mother and babyThe programme also supports some expansion of health service delivery, by providing transportation for government health staff to run outreach clinics, and small funds for some improvements to local clinics.
