    Strait Access Technologies (SAT) was founded in 2008 as a start-up company at the University of Cape Town. Our objective is the development of cost effective and enabling technologies to treat heart valve diseases. Our focus is primarily on creating intelligent surgical products to treat Rheumatic patients in emerging economies. Solving the complex technical challenges for devices required in younger Rheumatic candidates, has resulted in breakthrough solutions that have competitive advantages for older patients with degenerative heart valve conditions – in emerging and developed economies.Specifically, our second generation balloon expandable TAVR valve for rheumatic and degenerative aortic valve disease is designed to treat the entire aortic valve disease spectrum from calcific aortic stenosis to pure aortic regurgitation in patients with non-calcified, compliant annuli.

    I am part of a small team responsible for the development and testing of a novel hydraulic hybrid system, fitted on long haul heavy duty vehicles for the purpose of improving fuel consumption. I am responsible for the modeling of the fuel saving system within the matlab / simulink environment, as well as being part of the team that maintains and improves the control system. I am also responsible for the design and fitment of the harness used by our system, including the speccing of all required electrical hardware such as sensors and automotive connectors. I was the project lead on the design, development and building of a novel hydraulic/ICE/electric hybrid system fitted to an existing Polo body. This project was a successful proof of technology by proving that the peak current draw as well as the average current draw by the electric motor could be reduced by the fitment of our hydraulic system, while having an ICE acting as a pseudo range extender.
