For my first few months at Bryant Pond, I worked as a camp counselor educating youth from ages 7-18 in an outdoor classroom setting. I was responsible for the well-being of my campers 24 hours a day while they attended camp, as well as making sure to educate them on specific conservation skills including Backcountry travel, facilitation of teambuilding activities, high and low ropes course management, canoeing, fishing, hunting, primitive, and awareness skills. For a month of the summer season, I inhabited a camp sight within the Junior Maine Guide program as one of the leaders dedicated to educating future Maine Guides. I worked with students ages 14-18 years old to establish familiarity in the Maine woods through a full immersion setting.

For the past two summers, I've spent a total of four weeks training and participating in the Pre-Orientation Adventure for Wildcats (PAWs) program. I was able to work closely with a co-leader and develop leadership skills, team building experiences, and learn how to work with multiple people. It was truly an amazing four weeks and my life has changed since. PAWs pointed me in the direction of outdoor leadership and education.

NACA is a group dedicated to sharing the traditions and knowledge from the indigenous peoples of the Americas through Knowledge speakers, stories, and craft projects. We host a knowledge speakers, craft projects (such as making corn beads or dreamcatchers), and stories passed down from indigenous elders. We also host an annual Pow-wow here on campus. In my position in the group, I was appointed Powwow Coordinator my freshman year (2011) and have been the Coordinator ever since. From 2012 to now, I've been the president of the group.POWWOW COORDINATOR: As the powwow coordinator for the last four years, I've had the honor of putting together a powwow averaging 700 visitors, three Native American drum groups, organizing numerous Native American vendors and both student and public visitors. We've had attention from the local newspapers and media at the powwow and I've been interviewed for articles. I was in charge of planning and advertising for the event, as well as reserving the space through the Memorial Union Building on campus and working with other University employees regarding the event. I've learned how to make networking connections in the Native American world, as well as dealing with high amounts of pressure and working through those moments. PRESIDENT: I was elected president in the Spring of 2012 and I've held the position since. As president, I run the NACA weekly meetings, facilitate and organize field trips, volunteering, and events as well as working under the Diversity Support Coalition on campus for minority students. I also help to keep the group recognized as a student organization and attend multiple meetings and group training sessions to keep the group alive.

At Camp Cody, I had the opportunity of working with children from the ages of seven to fifteen in an outdoor leading environment. I lead short hiking trips for younger students as well as longer hiking trips with older campers. For example, a nature walk around Pudding Pond to a full day hike to the summit of Mount Washington. I also worked inside of a cabin with two other co-counselors as the cabin counselor of teenage girls from the ages of twelve to fourteen. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much from both the campers and my fellow counselors.

Last summer, I worked full time at Monkey Trunks High Ropes course as a Safety Instructor. I learned how to rescue both adults and children from our equipment with a rope crank system. When possible, I worked to encourage them to push themselves a little past their comfort zones to finish the course. Our biggest goal as a company was to get people the enjoy themselves and to push themselves just outside of their comfort level and encourage them to do the best they can. Apart from being on the course, my responsibilities included opening and closing the course, maintenance of climbing gear and equipment, and teaching ground school. During ground school I taught the participants how to use and understand the equipment, general safety and answered questions about the course.

As my very first job, I worked under Carter's Clothing. I worked there throughout high school as a sales associate and from my longevity there, I learned many skills that helped me to move onto other job opportunities. My managers left me accountable for the back stockrooms to be clean, orderly and organized. I also worked as a cashier for the years that I was employed there. I attended full staff meetings and was working as part of the Carter's team to make the store a better place. I learned a great deal about customer service as well as counting funds, organization and how a business works through a corporate company.
