    I worked for Columbia Basin Trust as an agent for Columbia Power Corporation in the Power Operations Division.I oversaw the maintenance and operations of three generating facilities utilizing contracted trades services from FortisBC. I lead 11 operating Committees that oversaw the management of four transmission lines, one substation, and four generating facilities. I coordinated as the key contact with FortisBC for all contractual Services provided. I was on the asset management committee for the power operations group and created many key asset management guides and plans. I managed the O&M budget for three of the four generating facilities and oversaw the planning and contracted implementation of outages at the three generating facilities. My O&M team investigated forced outages and callout issues, managed key spare parts programs, and oversaw the outage planning and completion. I managed our key performance indicators and reported to directors and boards of the two companies (Columbia Basin Trust & Columbia Power Corporation.)

    I managed two of the largest dams in the West Kootenay's, Hugh Keenleyside Dam (HLK) and Kootenay Canal (KCL). I directly managed nearly 60 union and non-union staff for these two facilities and oversaw all operation and maintenance tasks. I worked closely with the asset management and project management departments for the short and long-term asset management planning for these facility's assets. I directly lead and oversaw all outages at both facilities and acted as the on-site safety coordinator when required.

    I was the Operations Manager for Nelson Hydro and take care of all operational duties within the utility. I manage a diverse team of IBEW tradesmen in all aspects of an electrical utility including: generation, distribution, transmission, metering, customer’s service and design. I have eleven tradesmen under my management currently which include: electricians, a millwright, linemen, a grounds man, designers and a meterman. I directly oversee; planning and implementation of capital upgrades to all our facilities which include: six substations, a hydro generating facility and all of our distribution and transmission system which service 11,000 metered customers. I build and manage our capital and maintenance schedules each year and also our five year out plan. I oversee customer inquiries into metering and service upgrades in the distribution system. My duties include report to the city council on various initiatives including the capital plan that I have created for each year and also our 5 year plan. Nelson Hydro works closely with all other city departments and I oversee the electrical service support to each of these departments. Nelson Hydro is a net importer of power and I directly manage the power purchases from FortisBC and am involved with the negotiations of our power purchase agreements with BC Hydro and FortisBC. I also oversee all government agency interactions including: stat-can, environment Canada, M.O.T., etc.This is an extremely busy job but it makes the days go fast and it keeps me interested constantly.as

Based in the lower mainland traveling to generation sites regularly to deal with unusual operating conditions, provide analysis of equipment, assist in installations, lead commissioning and perform investigations. Assisted in the ongoing development and maintenance of the Reliability Centered Maintenance Program for all of generation. Managed various projects to increase generation reliability and operational information visibility. Considered a subject matter expert of NERC-CIP standards and lead various NERC-CIP compliance work packages.

    I worded at Burrard Thermal Power Plant and helped create a central repository for all drawings. This involved collection of all the separate drawing repositories and then reviewing all drawings for duplicity then getting these drawings updated correctly to reflect what was in service in the field. I worked directly under the senior records clerk, and we together created a centralized filing system. I had to then train the site staff on how this system worked.It was at this job that I decided to go back to school to become an electrical engineer focused on power which is what I did.
