    A friend had his own sign erecting company and when he was busy I subcontracted myself out to work with him especially for industrial work.He then had an accident and hurt his hand badly so I then worked with him throughout until he had recovered----i also approached Elders Real Estate at Brighton about erecting real estate signs .They needed someone and agreed to give me their work which eventually included me making all the frames for their signs erecting them and making sure they were all in good condition, also did some real estate signs for The Professionals

    I was informed a position was to become available at the University of S.A. Magill Campus as a life saver/pool operator ,so sat for my pool operators licence and passed and then found out what it took to getya Bronze Medallion so that i could become a life saver. I taught myself how to swim going to the beach every day and managed to pass the swimming element of all 5 strokes in the required time and then passed my First Aid---Went and saw the lady who ran the sports complex and showed all my necessary certificates and started work about 2 weeks later------Duties included testing the water levels,cleaning the pool and surroundings,change rooms & sports halls & gymnasium ,take bookings for clubs who wished to use the pool at night eg water polo,learning to kayak,swimming schools,school swimming carnivals etc----making sure the shop was stocked with drinks,ice creams ,nibbles,swimming accessories & closely watching all who entered the pool area, balancing the cash register, opening & closing the pool------setting up nets for badminton,volleyball & indoor soccer in the sports halls & masking sure the gym was opened And closed at the right tomes and all the equipment was safe and in good working order

    When the retail store the Australian Wacko Co had moved to a lower level larger area in theMyer Centre in the Adelaide CBD,I elevated one of my employees to store manager as we had a reliable young vibrant group of workers 4 full time,7 part time who were, with the exception of one very trustworthy, I then started up a Wholesale Business selling afl,cricket,soccer,baseball ,basketball, rugby merchandise throughout S.A. ,as well as electrical & a few other items,calling on specialty gift stores ,newsagents ,petrol stations & sports stores,.I was the S.A. agent for companies in Vic.,NSW, & Qld. Once again I was responsible for all facets of the business as well as keeping an eye our retail store

    After closing our gift shop at Glenelg we moved into a much larger retail premises in the newly constructed Myer Centre in Rundle Mall in the Adelaide CBD,.The store was about 7 times the size of the one at Glenelg and we had to be up and running within 4 weeks of the deal going through.We started from scratch, cement floors bare walls, no displays ,we achieved our start time through managing tradies ,doing a great deal of it ourselves and by searching through a list of acquaintances to find some young vibrant 18 to 25 year old people to help us set up ,and from those we picked the best 6 who could work weekends ,school holidays & some full time. We built a team that loved to come to work,they were enthusiastic,easy & eager to teach and learn and often had good ideas for our store----We were voted and received an award from the Myer Centre as the best gift shop-----after 3 years we were offered a l;arger shop again in the Myer Centre on a lower floor which we accepted ,we did another complete refit and moved in before the pre Xmas season rush began---- Again I was responsible for all facets of the retail store including hiring & firing,banking,wages,purchasing,displays,sales targets and communication with the Myer Centre,suppliers,display stands at retail & wholesale trade shows ,where we again won an award for the best stand. We continued successfully until 1998 when we could not reach agreement that we considered fair with the Myer centre, combined with a couple of non work related issues ,one being the death of my father,we decided to pull out of the centre to see if we could find another option

    Rob Rabone my boss at Supreme lighting had a partenership in Melbourne with a Retail Gift Store selling pop/rock nostalgia & general gifts .We decided to go into partenership and open a small shop called Heaven at Glenelg whilst i was still working for Supreme Lighting,I worked 4 years with both rolls working at Supreme Lighting Monday to Friday & late night shopping & week ends at Heaven, where i was in charge of everything ,staff,sourcing and purchasing,displays,advertising. In 1991 we had the opportunity to increase the size of the store by about 700% which we decided to do & closed the store at Glenelg

    After leaving my previous position in which Supreme Lighting was one of my customers I went to the then owner/manager Rob Rabone and identified some problems that he had with his retail store ,both in the showroom and the warehouse and set out how I could improve his operation by streamlining his inwards goods area,in operation and utilizing the space he had and building new storage facilities--- in the showroom, improve the quality of displays especially the large window areas,making displays with eye catching displays with moving elements to catch the public eye---built display stands and made displays at Home Shows and renovation shows at the Royal Adelaide Show Grounds,help set up his two new stores at Holden Hill & Morphett Vale as his company continued to thrive.

I had studied sound engineering and was asked by The band Leader ifi would work on the sound desk at local gigs ,which i accepted eagerly. the vOthers suppotrted international acts such as Canned Heat,Dr Feelgood,George Thorogood & the Destroyer,Screaming Jay Hawkins,Roy Buchanan,John Mayalls Bluesbreakers,the Fabulous Thunderbirds,Link Wray,David Essex,Billy Preston,Albert King, The Straycats,humble Pie,Climax Blues Band,the spencer Davis Group & the edgar winter Band. Included was transporting & setting up equipment as well as controlling the sound desk
