Colonel DK Dass is a ‘Fauji’ to the ‘Core’ as he was not only born into a defence family (Father being an Air Force officer) but also did his schooling from the premier residential public school, the ‘Rashtriya Military School, Bangalore’ (formerly ‘King George’s Royal Indian Military School’, established in 1945 by King George VI, the King of Great Britain). After graduating from Delhi University, he joined the Army; finally taking premature retirement as a Colonel. After leaving the Army, he joined the Rotary Club of Delhi South Metropolitan under Rotary International District 3010 as a member and was bestowed with the coveted Paul Harris Fellowship. He was elected as the President of his Home Club in 2011-12. During his tenure the Club as well as the President (himself) were awarded with the prestigious ‘Diamond Club’ and ‘Diamond President’ Awards respectively by the Governor Rotary International District 3010. He also received the coveted ‘Citation’ from the President Rotary International, headquartered at Connecticut USA, for his dedicated and selfless services rendered to the society. The passion to do something worthwhile for the uniformed personnel had always been close to his heart, as he himself has donned the uniform at an early age in life, 8 ½ yrs to be precise, when he joined the elite Bangalore Military School. The NGO, Indian Bravehearts (www.indianbravehearts.in), has been founded with this very aim. Indian Bravehearts is a nonprofit NGO registered under The Indian Trusts Act 1882, and a proud initiative of an Army Officer. Our mission is focused towards the welfare, rehabilitation and well being of the veterans, dependants, widows and orphans of the Armed Forces fraternity, to include the three military services (Army, Navy & Air Force) under Min of Def, the Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, CRPF, ITBP & CISF) under Min of Home Affairs, and smaller organizations like NSG, Coast Guards and Assam Rifles.

Indian Bravehearts is a non-profit NGO registered under the Society Registration Act 1860; and a proud initiative of an Army officer. We are totally focused towards the ‘welfare, rehabilitation and well being’ of the Indian Bravehearts fraternity (all armed forces personnel under MOD and MHA), their dependants, widows and orphans. It is requested that this introductory letter should not be misconstrued as an attempt to seek recognition or request for grants, but is an endeavour at creating awareness about the NGO and its welfare activities, as also synergizing the humanitarian efforts for the entire community, whether serving or retired. The Chairman is himself a Georgian (having donned the ‘uniform’ at an early age of 8 ½ yrs), a veteran, a Rotarian, and has been running another NGO along with four other Army officers since 2010. Our objectives may be manifold, but the principal focus is to provide a cohesive platform to the fraternity to care for themselves, just as they have always been working shoulder-to-shoulder during integrated operations and have always risen to the occasion whenever called for the integrity of the Nation; the same camaraderie and bonhomie is now expected in civvies. I would also like to state that this is not another Ex Servicemen Organization but an NGO, with no political aspirations, but totally committed to the welfare of the fraternity and their dependants.
