My name is Clare Beatty, and I am currently based in Bangor, Northern Ireland. I hold a BA Hons in Drama from Queen's University Belfast, which I completed in 2019. For over four years, I have worked as a support worker with Positive Futures, where I assist individuals with additional needs and disabilities, striving to enhance their daily experiences through creative communication methods, including Makaton. My passion for drama has also led me to teach children with additional needs, helping them build confidence and creativity through various drama techniques. I am dedicated to finding innovative ways to connect with non-verbal and autistic individuals, and I aspire to become a teacher myself one day.

As a support worker I have the opportunity to support and help those with additional needs and mental/physical disabilities. I am constantly striving to make the person I supports day by thinking of du and exciting things that can make that bit of a difference. I hope to teach one day, and I believe my degree in Drama benefits me greatly with communicating to those who are non-verbal,/autistic etc or that maybe find communicating difficulties, I am always looking for new ways to communicate and have recently started using Makaton. My job is very challenging, but if anything extremely rewarding.

As a final year Drama student studying at QUB, I had the chance to teach children in East Belfast with additional and physical needs Drama. Over the 15 weeks I began with a p6 class working with them on a weekly basis to help develop their confidence, communication, creativity, imagination as well as simply to have fun. I then in the year of 2019 started with the first years. Each week I would come in with a new topic, we explored: mime, devising, improvisation, scriptwriting, acting for camera, pantomime, greek theatre and so fourth. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Mitchell House, and It was absolutely fantastic to see the students benefit from a subject I am so passionate about, furthermore would hope to teach myself someday!
