I worked as a support worker in Perkins school for the blind. The school facilitated education and residential for children with cognitive impairments and disability. Responsibilities:• Responsible for the safety, wellbeing, care and development of young children. • I worked in the classroom with three boys who were partially blind and deaf along with having multiple cognitive difficulties - I was a key worker for one student. • I encouraged and supported the students to experience a wide range of skill building activities through speech and language therapy, and training for independent living skills.• Attending any medical appointments or social events with the children. • Helping children with after-school activities in the residential unit • Providing supervision and constant care to children.
