    My role within Penumbra involved offering both practical and emotional support to people with Mental Health problems in a 1:1 setting. This involved using psychological research and skills. I was a Key Worker for 10 people over the course of my employment. Due to the nature of my work which can be both unpredictable and challenging – I was required to think on my feet on a daily basis.

    I was a temporary member of the registration team And student records department during the first few weeks of university. My role was to issue student cards and generally assist students with university life. It was here where I learnt how to use the photo-shop software GIMP and Microsoft Access. Within the Student Records department, I was assigned to a more administrative role regarding Proof of Attendance and Attainment at the University documents and updating and maintaining student records. This involved dealing with confidential and sensitive information and ensuring all information and data handled was compliant with GDPR, Data Protection legislation.

    My role involved offering advice and assistance on purchases. Other responsibilities included making up daily targets and completing sales figure sheets. I was also involved in the creative aspect of the job such as visual merchandising. As a younger member of the team, I created outfits using different accessories and styling techniques to demonstrate the versatility of the clothes we were selling. Later, I was also involved in payroll paperwork and was often put in charge of managing the shop and junior team members.

    I undertook a summer internship at the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research at the University of Aarhus and was involved in various research projects during my time there. I was involved in the write up of a manuscript on the relationship between substance abuse and impulsive behaviours. I was also involved in analysing data sets using SPSS and writing up several review papers for different researchers in the Centre. In addition, I was appointed leader of a project which involved filming and interviewing two researchers on anti-social personality disorder for the Centre website. This was a very valuable and enjoyable experience in which I gained confidence working in a professional environment and learned the value of being pro-active.
