My new role as Epilepsy Services Officer in NSW elevates my treasured work as an Epilepsy Support Worker to include the promotion of Epilepsy Foundation and Epilepsy Smart Australia Program (ESAP) services across New South Wales. The launch of ESAP aims to create a collaborative environment across Australia; it is my pleasure to represent EF in NSW in promoting the importance of this Program for people living with epilepsy.- Designing, delivering and refining person-centred approaches to facilitate self-management with a particular focus on health & well-being- Carrying an active case load of clients assisting them to meet their specific needs- Ensuring that service provision meets the differing cultural, social and spiritual needs of clients- Supporting people living with epilepsy to be involved in advocacy and the development of appropriate self-advocacy skills- Collecting client information and entering case notes in the EF's Client Manager System- Supporting the NSW Operations Coordinator to build local networks and promote client-based support in NSW- Member of ESAP Peer Support Project Working Group- Working co-operatively with the Practice Leader to deliver consistency in service delivery and support the implementation of major projects- Supporting the Practice Leader in team management duties as required

As an Epilepsy Support Worker I have the honour of supporting people living with epilepsy and their families throughout their epilepsy journey. This support support stretches from emotional support to Epilepsy Management Plans to liaising with other key organisations. The ultimate goal is to help PLWE to feel empowered to self-manage their epilepsy and to self-advocate. Epilepsy Support Workers embody the Epilepsy Foundation’s core ethos that no-one goes it alone, there is always support available.- Aid service users in enabling the ability to self-manage, facilitate equality of access, challenge injustice and discrimination and stigma due to their epilepsy.- Design, delivery and refining of a person centre approach to facilitate self-management.- Carrying an active case load for short term case management assisting and supporting clients meeting their specific needs.- Developing relationships and fostering them within the community context such as health professionals, hospitals and other organisations.- Providing psychological support that meets the differing cultural, social and spiritual needs of clients.- Advocating for people with epilepsy by educating and working with differing agencies, community organisations.- Facilitating regular Peer Support Groups providing a space to connect and share experiences.- Involvement in design and delivery of National online educational programmes for social and support network members.- Member of Working Group creating inter-state connections to develop National Peer Support Groups.
