Responsible for the delivery of all public services to the adult community which includes programs, instruction, research/reference, reader’s advisory, marketing & public relations, community outreach & partnerships, and some areas of collection development as well as circulation services library-wide. Manage, coach, and mentor a team of 15 including one assistant manager, one coordinator, and 13 additional full- and part-time professional and paraprofessional staff; ensure the team delivers best in class services, programs and assistance to our community. Recruit, hire, and train new public services team members; plan and conduct in-house training and staff meetings as well as facilitate training on new technologies and services; set performance expectations and evaluate performance. Model a high level of customer service, train and coach staff accordingly; oversee the scheduling of public services staff desks and make emergency staff assignments as necessary. Respond directly to or give guidance to staff regarding public interactions including patron incidents and complaints; apply and interpret policies quickly in complex situations. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the department and participate in the development of strategic goals for the organization including plans for the new library building. Encourage new ideas and entrepreneurship from staff which engage our community in new and meaningful ways. Supervise and oversee the department expenditures and train specialist librarians to manage portion of the budget independently. Examine existing Library processes and procedures to evaluate inefficiencies and develop streamlined workflows thus increasing efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Collaborate with other departments to enable delivery of seamless user experiences in the Library. Form and foster relationships with a wide range of community organizations which resulted in collaborate efforts and coordination of resources.
