Chris is an empathetic, caring, and process oriented engineering leader. One of his many superpowers is that he builds engaged and thriving teams. Chris took our engineering, product, design and data teams over, and while we had a wonderful group of teammates at the time, things weren't working at the level we needed. He quickly got the buy of the team and put best practice processes in place to ensure that we were delivering on time with well defined product. During his tenure, our tech attrition team went to zero (incredibly impressive in the Bay Area), and the team delivered some of its best work. Hoping to have the opportunity to work with Chris again.

I worked directly under Chris’ supervision at Popsugar for four years. For me, Chris was a great manager. For the company, he was a very effective senior executive. For the whole engineer branch, he was an intelligent problem solver. Chris built his leadership by forming consensus among different parties. He is a great listener and has an amazing ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds. He can take in different opinions and present them in a way to intrigue constructive discussions. He can clearly translate business needs into engineering tasks and propose smart engineering solutions for various business problems. As a VP of Engineering at Popsugar, Chris was responsible for steering the technology visions of the company and managing the engineer team to execute those visions. His knowledge in the electronic publishing industry is very advanced and his experience in web publishing, data tracking, online advertisements, and ecommerce is very rich. He oversaw a wide variety of engineering projects at Popsugar from dev ops to frontend rendering to backend services to big data analytics to email marketing to e-commerce. Whenever we needed a fresh eye on a difficult bug or a certain inspiration on engineering architecture design, he was always our go-to guy. As my manager, Chris always tried his best to make me succeed in all my tasks. In the last four years, I never met a single blocker that couldn’t be removed by Chris. He is a convincing motivator and has provided great support, both technical and non technical, for me. In summary, if you have too many egos on your engineering team or not enough talents, Chris can build a great engineering team for you. If you need a senior executive leading the technology roadmap of your organization, Chris can help you reach the business milestones. If you need a brilliant engineering lead who has great technical acumen as well as problem solving ability, Chris has the knowledge, experience, and intelligence to keep your company’s engine running.

I started out automating email workflows to support the small but mighty Community team and implementing a bayesian filter to remove spam from the network. I quickly became a core contributor to the Python web stack (CherryPy, PostgresSQL, memcached) where I built paid products, user-engagement features, and was eventually added to the pager rotation to handle off-hours production outages.
