Eisenhower Foundation is the international, nonprofit continuation of the National Advisory Commission On Civil Disorders (the Kerner Riot Commission, after the big city riots of the 1960s) and the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence (the National Violence Commission, after the assassinations of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert Kennedy.)” The Foundation replicates and evaluates successful program models for children and youth living in inner cities across the United States.     A not-for-profit think tank, design shop, and management company, TDC was founded “to improve the performance of people and institutions in the economy in order to promote the economic well-being of individuals, families, and communities.” TDC cultivated creative thinking, design and management through a constructivist approach to design, project management, consulting and organization-wide learning. TDC’s work attracted international attention for its results, its culture of innovation and its underlying ethos of social entrepreneurship. TDC design innovations included:The first community-based Job Corps center in the country;The Career Advancement Center, a design that informed the development of the One-Stop Career Center system in the United States and a countrywide interpretation called Job Bridge in Northern Ireland; ACMS, a technology platform that integrated service delivery, liberated practitioners from algorithmic work and shuffling paper while supporting data-driven programming;New England Institute (NEI), a professional development and technical assistance arm of TDC that offered graduate level, credit-bearing courses developed jointly by practitioners and academicians. NEI also provided consulting services in thirty-eight states and in the UK;The TDC learning company, a production learning design applied to the creation of Theatre Arts WORKS Enterprise®, a repertory theatre learning company, as well as a set of prototypes in TDC Job Corps centers and Media WORKS Enterprise®. Media WORKS engaged disadvantaged youth in the creative economy as employees of a design studio that educated youth for sustainable employability by providing essential services to community organizations and causes within Maine and nationally through a contract with the National Manufacturers Institute for its Dream it! Do it! campaign; A body of work that cultivated the understanding and practice of sustainable employability and global community capitalism.
