Branch Manager
-
Feb 2011 - Oct 2014
Overall Branch operations- purchasing, inventory control and forecasting, building sales, overseeing branch level human resource issues, supporting and assisting sales team members, training team members and budgeting.I was assigned to the manager position in the recently acquired competitor location. While operating the daily branch responsibilities, I was tasked with transitioning from the old operational software and train the previous business' staff in the software and operational platform of our company. On February 1st, Home Acres also acquired the business of four recently closed branches of a high profile exterior building supply company. This acquisition included the addition of two team members from the exterior company. In less than two months, we also added two outside salesmen from various building industry backgrounds. During the long period of transition, we continued training and implementing our Home Acres operations all while bringing these different cultures together under our Home Acres team. Even with the long transition, our location continued to see sales growth during all four years of my assignment.

Assistant Manager- special assignment
-
Nov 2010 - Jan 2011
I was sent to our newest location, in Midland, to help input the daily sales from their existing computer system into the Home Acres software. I was asked to build and maintain the temporary IT infrastructure to operate the branch until more permanent systems could be installed. Once the computers arrived a week later I was able build a complete system to get everyone operating with our equipment and software. This also began the team's software and operational training. Meanwhile I was processing daily paperwork in order to bill customer invoices nightly. I was also tasked in training the previous businesses owner in the duties and responsibilities of a Home Acres Branch Manager. This assignment concluded near the end of January when I was offered the position of Branch Manager for the Midland location.

Assistant Branch Manager, Warehouse Manager, Dispatcher, Purchasing and Inventory Control
-
Oct 1998 - Nov 2010
In this position I performed inside sales, supported outside sales, managed warehouse and delivery personnel and was the primary person responsible for branch purchasing, on-hand inventory forecasting and monthly inventory cycle counts. Depending on the level of sales and staffing, I also spent time as needed making deliveries, stocking material into job sites, visiting job sites to address customer concerns, running the warehouse while building orders and loading trucks.During the economic down turn, our branch manager was reassigned to oversee the daily operations in the Traverse City branch. I was assigned the daily operations of the Gaylord location while my manager would oversee me remotely. I assumed the daily duties of the branch manager while continuing to fulfill my established responsibilities. This arrangement lasted a year. During this time I often ran the branch alone, running both the office and warehouse while servicing customers, building orders and loading trucks in order to keep the delivery team members moving to job sites.

This entry level position was on the Utility Team and included daily clean up operations, factory building maintenance, snow removal, Down Day maintenance assistance and vacation coverage for the 5 plant operational teams. In the role of vacation coverage, I was quickly accepted by all 5 operational teams as a good team member and able to complete the duties needed to fill the varying positions of the vacationing team members. While vacation coverage was established on a rotating basis, I was well respected among the Operational Teams for my work ethic and found myself to be the first person requested for the majority of the shift coverage. I spent the majority of the last six months assigned to the rotating swing shift with E Team. This shift rotated twenty-one working days over three week with the fourth week off. For the most part, I voluntarily returned to the Utility team during that off week to resume my normal duties.

Hired as a painter, the company owner, Woody, quickly recognized me for my fine detail and finesse in my abilities to hand finish projects. While many crews would finish the larger portions of commercial and private jobs, I would be brought in for application of final coats, cut in fine details and perform hand finishing tasks. In June 1996, I was assigned as project leader for the remodeling of the closed downtown mall to make the new Kid's Mall. After one month of supervising 3-4 painters, the project was placed on hold and I was reassigned. Several of Woody's customers personally requested that I paint their projects. So for the balance of my employment I worked alone painting private practice medical suites, lawyer offices and by the customer's request was assigned to perform working in their own homes.I left Woody's to accept the Weyerhaeuser position and return to the area where I was raised.

I started as a fan seeking tickets to a sold out show for a local band. I offered to arrive in a gorilla suit for WGRD's "Funky Like a Monkey Pre-Funk Party". I was such a hit at that event that the DJ Rick Beckett of the "Rick, Darla and Scott" morning show took me under his wing. I was quickly known as the radio personality "Funky D Monkey" on air, at event broadcasts and appearances. Before long, I was doing background sounds and voices on radio commercials and appearing once to twice weekly at radio station gigs. From the beginning my compensation was free dinners and drinks at events, private introductions to bands and music industry personnel, simple swag, and concert tickets. Two months into the gig, they offered me part time employment with an annual salary. While it was a great offer, it not as good as my previous compensation of free tickets, meals, promotional items, give away items and access to music and comedy artists. They agreed, and I was kept on the team until I accepted the Weyerhaeuser position and moved away from Grand Rapids.
