    Situated in the Neighbourhood Doughnut and Public Square Demonstrators, my work revolves around using the 'Doughnut Economics' framework as a 21st century compass to orient us to the scale of challenge and opportunity in the face of the cascading social, ecological and climate crises of our time. As part of this, I am researching regenerative building practices and precedents for our capital project, in which we bridge theory into practice through the retrofit of an ex-industrial site into regenerative civic infrastructure fit for the 21st century, as well as working to develop collective neighbourhood research practices to democratise access and contribution to knowledge, data and build collective synthesis practice that builds agency to take strategic action in our places.

  • Doughnut Economics Researcher - Policy and Analysis

    Researcher in Doughnut Economics working to downscale the doughnut framework into a city planning process for Leeds. Funded project to develop the Leeds Doughnut City Portrait and facilitate a policy dialogue in collaboration with the University of Leeds, Climate Action Leeds and Leeds City Council. Building on my MSc thesis on local-social thriving in Leeds, I am drawing together research from the four lenses of the Doughnut Economics methodology to co-author the Leeds Doughnut City Portrait Report. I lead the policy exchange between our doughnut work and Leeds City Council's policy and intelligence strategy team, spending one day a week seconded to their team. As part of this, I am producing a briefing note on Climate KPIs to develop the Council's monitoring of climate action in Leeds. Further, I contribute to the development and facilitation of meetings, workshops and cross-sectoral stakeholder engagement more broadly, leading our community-level testing and engagement.Key skills: project management, quantitative & qualitative data collection and analysis, stakeholder engagement, communicating & influencing, strategic urban policy

    - Develop and deliver outreach activities in and around the field of Sustainable Cities- Develop subject specific, age appropriate learning materials to be used by other EOFs and staff in schools and colleges in and around Leeds I have successfully designed and led sustainability sessions with students aged 14 - 17 covering the topics of Doughnut Economics, car free cities, leadership in sustainability, the wellbeing economy, and more.

    The National Food Service is a UK-wide network of 15 pay-what-you-can social eating spaces from Falmouth to Glasgow, based on the principles of mutual aid and solidarity. I coordinated and liaised across these hubs to ensure the development of the national network.     My role involved profile raising, horizon scanning and connecting research from three UK higher education institutions, the universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, with key stakeholders in Brussels to influence European policy. In addition to maintaining the office's core administrative needs (emails, website content, social media communications, internal and external newsletter), I coordinated large research events and kept up to date with a wide range of strategic policy areas (primarily across climate change, food security and health), distilling any developments in concise policy briefings for the universities' senior teams. Drawing on primary and secondary research, I produced a comprehensive report on widening participation policies in higher education across Europe, helping the universities to develop their understanding of the European landscape - one of their strategic aims.Skills acquired: Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), website management (WordPress), communication platforms (Mailchimp), content creation (Canva), social media platforms (twitter, linkedin).

    A fully funded, ethically approved collaborative undergraduate research project looking into the representation of migrants and refugees within the mainstream media and its consequent effect on public discourse and government policies. Within our research we analysed how alternative mediums of art and self-representation could be used to challenge the dominant representation. Research outputs: research article, short film, blog and an academic poster.Principal skills acquired: Collaborative and analytical research, face-to-face, online and written communication, teamwork, creation and analysis of SurveyMonkey questionnaire, project management sites (Trello), conducting interviews (in both English and French) and time management.
