My role as a mentor involves a client centred approach supporting a young woman who has recently been incarcerated and is now living in the community with her 18 month old son awaiting sentencing. I assist my mentee regularly to assist in maintaining her confidence since leaving prison to overcome the obstacles of her past and assist in times of vulnerability. I assist with parental advice, keeping her in a positive mindset and our relationship consists of regular phone calls, text exchanges and more recently with COVID restrictions permitting, meeting face to face where I was able to meet her son.
