    Health Alliance provides shared services for non-frontline transactional support to Waitemata, Counties Manukau, Auckland, Northland DHBs. The services provided includes Finance, Information Services, Process and Services Improvement, Procurement and Supply Chain.My day to day focus is Cashflow management and bank reconciliation. At month end, I am doing Board Report and Commentary, Month End Report, budget & actual variances. I also deal with both internal and external auditors.As I have quite good background in system projects and maintenance, when Health Alliance and Counties Manukau DHB changed their bank account, I was involved in testing the new bank account functions and setup. I am also participated in the National Oracle project for the 20 District Health Boards.When Auckland DHB upgrade from Oracle R11 to R12, I played an active role of teaching, coaching and supervising their A/C Receivable and Finance staff. During my time in Health Alliance, I have trained up 4 Assistant Accountants and 10 A/ C Receivable Clerks.

    PureDepth is a technology development company for Multi Layer Display (MLD). The U.S. parent company was a Listed Public Company (de-registered in March 2010). It has 2 subsidiaries in New Zealand and 1 in Japan. It owns 80 registered Patents. All accounting functions for the Group were done in New Zealand.PureDepth was a small company but because it was public listed in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), my job involved more than the normal accounting and finance functions. Besides daily and monthly accounting and filing of statutory returns, I also needed to deal with the SOX requirements and helped with the SEC filings.When PureDepth was a Public listed company, every quarter we had to file quarterly financial results with SEC. I learnt quite a lot about SOX requirements, I also strengthened my analysing skills of how to interpret the financial result figures. In the quarterly filing we needed to do fluctuation analysis for this quarter and last quarter. The year end filing, we needed to do fluctuation analysis for the quarter and for the same period of last year.The U.S. taxation for Independent Contractors is different from New Zealand. We need to file Form 1099 for those Independent Contractors we used. I gained knowledge of what information that needed to gather for filing the Form.Because the company has subsidiaries in different counties, I also needed to deal with bankers in different countries which helped me to gain an in-depth knowledge of working in multi-currencies situation.During my time with PureDepth, we had an accounting system upgrade, as I have very good background in system upgrade and maintenance, I did a lot of set up for the new accounting system. I have also automated quite a number of processes to eliminate manual data entry.As we had very limited finance resources, we employed temporary staff, so I have supervised a few temporary staff and contractors during various time..

    Challenge Trust is a Not for Profit Organisation providing Mental Health Recovery Services to people who have mental illnesses. Since Challenge Trust is a Not for Profit organisation, it is important that they have available fund for their business. We were focused very tightly on weekly Cash forecast and cashflow. Our invoices were mainly based on the contracts that were signed between the DHBs and the organisation. As each month’s incoming cash was very significant to the business, we needed to make sure the invoices were generated and sent to the DHBs in a timely manner. Managed to keep deadline for these processes were very important.When I started with Challenge Trust, all their statutory filings were done manually. There were a lot of penalty payments because of the Returns being lost in the mail. I managed to setup cost centres in their payroll system and trained the payroll Administrator to start electronic filings for PAYE and Employer Monthly Schedule. I also introduced electronic filing for GST return to them. That reduced the penalty figures a lot by the time when I left.The Chart of Accounts and the Codes used in AP, AR and Bank Reconciliation were much cluttered when I started. I liaised with the Software Provider and the Finance Manager to simplify the Chart of Accounts. We have a revamp for the whole Chart of Accounts and set up new Codes to be used in AP, AR and Bank Reconciliation. The new codes had much less duplication and confusion to users.During my time with Challenge Trust, I supervised AP/Payroll, Temp Assistant Accountant and an Accounts Clerk. I developed a skill of management for more than one assistant under me.
