      I worked with community task forces to write the City of Savannah Land Clearing and Tree Protection Ordinance in 1994, then administered this ordinance for the City of Savannah. I also acted as liaison with community groups in the City regarding public landscape and planning projects, acted as planning liaison with the Metropolitan Planning Commission on commercial and institutional projects, and worked with tree preservation groups to encourage tree planting and preservation. Among the changes I was able to effect: implementation of the tree ordinance, changes to City paving standards to include tree easements for existing and new trees on private property, porous paving, bio-infiltration swales and green infrastructure as part of parking lot standards.I was awarded "Outstanding Public Official" by the Georgia Urban Forest Council in 1996 for my work and outreach efforts on the Savannah Tree Ordinance.
