    • Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology
      • Jul 1990 - Aug 1996
      • St. Louis MO

I was an academic pediatric gastroenterologist and pediatrician in the departments of pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology from 1990 to 1996. I was a clinical attending in pediatric gastroenterology and a basic science/medical researcher as well. During this time period I was awarded an NIH Clinical Investigator Award and an independent NIH R-01 grant on the characterization of the rat liver bile acid transport protein. As per the grant we successfully identified its DNA sequence; successfully tested its function as a result of various biological and environmental conditions; expressed and identified it as an ecto-ATPase as well in tissue culture. We also characterized its regulation by cellular substrates and metabolites. Finally, we were able to verify its duel function on the external surface of the hepato-cellular cannalicular membrane, which faces into cannalicular lumen.
