Subsea 7 is a seabed-to-surface engineering and construction contractor to the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. When I moved to the UK I was looking to do something different and landed this role in the treasury team. My main responsibility in this role was the management of the rolling long term cashflow forecast, working and supporting and consolidating cashflow statements from 8 geographical territories around the globe and helping to ensure its accuracy for disclosure to the market. The process involved intercompany reconciliation on a global scale (establishing an inter company matrix), consolidation of the geographical territories, updating forecasted EBITDA, working capital analysis, analysis of cash movements v budget, and presentation to executives. As well as managing this process I was also involved in the daily cash investment decisions as the company had a centralised cash management policy, and ensuring the group across the globe were able to meet its payment obligations, as well as assisting the Group Treasurer with such tasks as embedded derivatives, bank guarantees, covenant reporting, commitments, as well as completing the financial reporting of these.

Peplin, Inc. is a pharmaceutical company focused on advancing and commercialising innovative medical dermatology products. Peplin, Inc. was listed on the ASX from 2000 to 2009 when it was acquired by a Danish dermatology company. When I began at Peplin the decision had just been made to list on the NASDAQ. My first task in this role was to prepare the initial set of US GAAP financial statements to be incorporated into the S-1 IPO document. Being a start up company this involved reporting the company's financial results since its incorporation and converting from AIFRS to US GAAP. While the company ended up being acquired by a private company in 2010, from 2007 to 2010 I was required to continue to report the companies numbers on a quarterly rolling basis (Form 10Q), as well as annually (Form 10 and Form 10K), all of which were audited each quarter. Other task included:- Ensuring the company's controls complied with SOX, documenting all controls, changing and enhancing controls as required, and also implementing a new accounting system Microsoft GP Dynamics.- Maintenance of the employee option register and equity related filings in both Australia and the US.- Preparation of income tax calculations and return preparation in jurisdictions including Australia, the US (State and Federal) and Ireland.- Preparation of all other tax returns ie payroll tax, fringe benefits tax, and BAS returns.- Mentoring junior staff to provide them with challenges, to increase their industry and technical knowledge, as well s providing feedback and motivation to succeed.

I started at KPMG as an undergrad, completing my university studies in conjunction with working full time. I also completed my CA qualification whilst at KPMG.Working in middle market advisory provided me with experience in a range of areas including accounting, financial reporting, tax, audit and company secretarial matters. It also provided me with experience in a number of different industries. During my time I was also lucky enough to do a couple of secondments, to Coal & Allied and also Dominos, both times to assist with financial reporting.During my time at KPMG I also managed and mentored a number of staff. A key part of this mentoring was to encourage, motivate and assist staff to complete their qualifications just as I had done previously.
